Black Leather

Here's another monochromatic necklace. This one's made from leather instead of dominoes.
It's very similar to the original bunting necklace I made a few years ago, but I felt like having an all black one.

In addition to the black leather triangles I also attached these metal beads. They're quite old and a bit rusty, but I'm not too bothered. They add to the grungy look. The best wire I had to loop through the beads on to the jump rings was this black coated jewellery wire. I would have preferred silver but you work with what you're got. At least the black matches the leather.

This Week I...

...got my scrapbook on.
For her 21st birthday my friend Lizzi got given a scrapbook by her boyfriend which she could add to throughout the years. That was 3 years ago and she hadn't added a single thing so I invited her round on Tuesday to give her the motivation to get it done, because I love organising things like this.

Once we were done - it took pretty much all day - we watched the movie Camp Takota, another thing we'd mean meaning to do for ages. It was so good! Love those girls!

On Thursday I went roller skating with my friend Robyn as she want to try out her new pair of skates. We cautiously made it to the skate floor, wobbling a bit, but soon enough we were skating like pros*. That is until it was time to leave and I misjudged my exit. My skates went out in front of me and I landed on my bum. Graceful.

*pros who skate round in a circle at a sensible speed and don't even attempt going backwards.

As it was half term this week I was able to get some crafty things done, including sewing this string of bunting for Class 1. It's made from oil cloth type material so it doesn't fray. Once all the triangles had been cut all I had to do was sew them together with some binding. That should brighten up the classroom.

This Week I...

...led the Saturday kids art class at the Letchworth Arts Centre. For one of the activities I rolled out a long sheet of paper for the children to draw a street scene on. They had a good time sitting on the floor and collaborating on this piece, giving each other ideas on what to add.

In my Mum's reception class this week they made mini pizzas using muffins as the base, so we made our own at home with the left over ingredients. Fun!

I also finished another set of bunting. I knew I wouldn't be done with just making one set.

Bunting

I've got a craft fair coming up in June and my Mum thought it would be a good idea to make some bunting for my stall. I know bunting is kind of over done these days, but it is a good way to make your stall say, 'Here be crafts!' from a distance.

We started by going through my fabric stash and picking out patterns and colours that would go together.      Mostly pinks.
Then my Mum very kindly cut out all the triangles. We didn't know how many we'd need so she just cut out a whole bunch. I paired the triangles together and found that we had enough for one lot of bunting and then some.

I sewed the two long sides of all the triangles and then turned them inside out (or rather the right side out) and poked out the point with a long pair of scissors.

To assemble the bunting I pinned a long piece of ribbon around the top of the triangles and sent the whole thing through the sewing machine.

I went for a rough pattern of bright pink followed by patterns pink/light pink.

I can see how people could get addicted to making bunting. So many fabric combination possibilities!

Have any of your made bunting before?

Bunting necklace

My Dad recently gave me these booklets of leather samples that his work no longer needed.
Tiny bits of leather in all different colours.

I've seen loads of great tutorials using leather scraps so now I can make them too.

I started with this bunting necklace which I love so much. It was based on this tutorial by Mrs Priss, which in turn was inspired by a necklace from Anthropologie.

It was super easy to make, and more so because I didn't need to colour my leather like in the tutorial.
I kept mine quite simple with only a few triangles and didn't add any ribbon, but I still think it looks cute.

Bunting!

I love me some bunting.
Here's the pink bunting in my room in my student house. (The picture was taken right when I moved in. The wall has since been covered in pictures and my desk is a lot more messy.) It's made from different shades of pink sugar paper, wrapping paper and the very light pink is the wall paper from my bedroom back home.

More bunting;

I love this mini bunting birthday card from How About Orange.
