Scratch Art

I've been planning my next kids art club session and this is one of the activities they'll be doing.
Scratch art!

First you thickly cover a sheet of paper with wax crayon. The more colours the better and if your arm's not aching you're not doing it right

Then paint a layer of black paint over the crayon. I used poster paint.

Once the paint has dried (which will hopefully be within the 2 hour session on Saturday) scratch away at the paint with the end of a paint brush.

This is my example to show the children on Saturday. Can't wait to see what they come up with!

Tiger Hair Clips

My sewing box is kind of a mess. In the bottom part there's lots of little things I made and haven't done anything with. Like this tiger face.
I made a few of them at the time - and even made one into a necklace - but the others got forgotten.

The tiger face is a circle of fabric sewn around a disc with a bit of stuffing.
I decided to buy some hair clips from Ebay to do something with it.

I made a simple bow from this black leathery fabric, which I've used here and here, and attached the tiger face to the front.

Then I glued the hair clip to the back of the bow and it was done.

As well as a tiger face I also had a couple of tiger print circles.
I attached one to another bow that I'd started to make but didn't finish because the fabric was too thick to be a proper bow, but it worked for this hair clip.

I love these simple project where I've done most of the hard work already.

Tigers take 2

I really liked the tiger image I made by drawing in pen on to fabric that I did here so I tried it again, this time smaller.

I did the same tiger face and some tiger stripes as well.

I sewed the fabric around a capiz shell because it was nice and circular and added some polyester stuffing inside.

I used one of the tiger faces to make this necklace.

The two black circles came from this necklace which I got in this box of bargains.
I never did figure out how it was supposed to be worn because it was a long length of double beads with a circle at each end, rather than a big loop. I guess I could have just wrapped it around and around.
Nevermind, it's being used for better things now.

And when the new necklace is being worn, it looks a little like this.

I'm pretty used to my short hair now, in fact sometimes when I see photos of my long hair it just looks fake!

Tiger time

I made this tiger yo-yo (by tracing a photo of a tiger with a Sharpie) but now I don't know what to do with it.

I could make it into a hairband...

...or a brooch.

I'm not sure, any ideas?
