Scrapbooking #14

It's been a while since I did a bit of scrapbooking so it was fun to pick it up again. I'm still working with my last batch of print photos from a film which is why this photo is from May 2015.

The photo is from my friend's wedding and I used the invitations as a starting point for the page. I removed the ribbon and peeled off the lacy paper to use, and chose papers that would match these colours. I used the little name and date tag that came on the invitation to label the page.

The invitations also came with a jeweled decoration which I used with a flower sticker I had in a matching colour.

Scrapbooking #13

For this photo of me with my cousins and sister I went for a woodland theme to match the trees in the background of the image.

All I used to create this scrapbook page was various papers and this letter stamp set that my Mum found in her things. It's a little bit fiddly to use because the letters are so small but I like it.

For the background I used a craft knife to cut out tree shapes with lots of branches from green, yellow and grey coloured sugar paper. I then layered them on top of each other with some over lapping the photo. I really love how it turned out.

Scrapbooking #12

This scrapbook page uses a photo from a family day trip to Brighton a few years ago.

I kept the design of the page pretty simple with a textured, canvas background and strips of paper on top. I used Letraset to add the who, where and when information.

I used coloured paper that matched the colours in the photo and simply cut it into strips and stuck them around the back of the photo.

Scrapbooking #11

I love this photo of me and my sister with our Grandad and I finally got round to using it in a scrapbook page.

The background is just a brown folder divider which matched nicely with the patterned paper I used to mount the photo on. The tag at the top came from a sheet of scrap booking images and I used Letracet to add the year.
To spell out the word Grandad I used small letter cards that appeared in my craft stash. I don't know where they came from but I think they're really old. To finish off the page I added some strips of green and brown ribbon.

Scrapbooking #10

My latest scrapbook page is a simple one using a photo of me and my cousins.

It's so simple it only uses 3 things. The background was a page from an old stock image catalogue that I got from work. I made the letters by printing the words in reverse on to regular printer paper and cutting them out. And I used white cotton to make it look like the letters were hanging for a bit of fun.

Scrapbooking #9

For this scrapbook page I went for a completely different style. I was thinking of collage-y, art journal images with a lot of mixed media.
The photo was a bit of a dud as I think someone's finger (probably mine) was over the flash, so it's quite dark with an orangey tinge. As the photo wasn't amazing I felt I could be a bit experimental.

I started with plastic backed canvas for the base which I painted using black acrylic and a sample pot of orange wall paint to match the colour in the photo. Then I glued ripped bits of foil and newspaper to the canvas, covering the photo in places.

I painted over the paper and canvas, using a fairly dry brush to pick up the texture. I used copper acrylic paint to add to the shine the foil provided. I added some pattern using a rubber stamp and a black ink pad, and later just white paint.
I used a plastic stencil to paint on the names of my friends in the photo and the date it was taken.

The glow around the girls was created by applying bleach to the photo with a paint brush, which is a technique I discovered at work. The result is a bit unpredictable but I think it looks really cool.

And as usual here's a shot of everything I used.

Scrapbooking #8

This was a fun page to put together, mostly because of the little flag bunting across it.
The photo is from last year when I went out with my friends for dinner before Steph moved away.

My favourite things I used on this page are the wrapping papers. The blue polkadot one wrapped up a present I got from a child at the end of term and I don't know where the map one came from but it's the same piece that I used on this page
The pale blue patterned paper on the background is from a wallpaper sample and the caption is printed on a Project Life note card that I picked up at the Scrap Store. The little postcards also came from there.
The little flags were made from cutting blue paper and folding it over string at the top, then using Letracet to spell out the words.

Scrapbooking #7

My latest scrapbook layout uses a photo from my friend Laura's hen do earlier this year.
The composition of the photo with the space at the top meant I could put the title over the photo which I really like.

I used the left over dalmatian print fabric that I had used to make our personalised bracelets and paired it with a piece of white fabric with black stripes for the background. I just used PVA glue to stick the fabric to a piece of card.

I used black ribbon to break up the area - one piece came from a Hotel Chocolat box - and added black paper triangles and tiny gemstones for added details.
I made the scalloped label by cutting around a circle of black paper with wiggly scissors and I felt very proud of myself.

Scrapbooking #6

The scrapbook continues, this time with a photo from my sister's Easter party earlier this year. The one where I went dressed as an Easter basket.

The thing I love most about this layout is the lettering. I think up until now for the words on a page I just used Letracet or printed it out. so I wanted to try something more creative.
For the word party I printed out the word in reverse on to the back of a piece of yellow wall paper which I stuck to a piece of printer paper so that it would go through the printer correctly. Then I just cut along the lines. I did the same thing with 'Jocelyn's Easter' on white paper which I then mounted on to blue paper.

The background is a sheet from this Martha Stewart pack, and the embellishments come from a calender set I got as a present a few years ago. Each sheet for three days and comes with die-cut pictures for scrap booking and card making. It's great because I knew exactly where to go for Easter themed pictures - April!

Scrapbooking #5

Since I got my film developed I wasted no time in getting scrap booking. I started with this photo of my sister and I at Christmas time

I chose a mint green background to match the colours in mine and my sister's dresses, for which I used an old piece of card. I embellished the page with sequin stars and bits off of old Christmas cards, including the glittery edged piece of card under the photo. I used glitter glue and fine silver glitter (glitter overload!) to match this on the border around the caption.

Scrapbooking #4

This scrapbook page started out looking very different but I wasn't loving it and when parts of it started to wrinkle from the glue I knew it would be best to take it apart and start again.
The photo is of me and my cousin on our way to the camp fire where we sung Fifteen by Taylor Swift. For this reason I decided to print out the lyrics of the song onto tracing paper and use that in my design. In the first version of this page I used the tracing paper across the whole background but I think it works better being just a section of the background.

The background is a green fabric paper, the same that I used to make these gift tags, and I think it goes perfectly with all the green in the photo. The photograph is mounted on a piece of cream, textured paper. That was my Dad's suggestion. Thanks Pops.
The captions are written in Letracet on to the back of wall paper and mounted on to red card. I chose red as I wanted to pick out the colour of my red welly boots from the photo.

Scrapbooking #3

This scrap book page was pretty simple to put together, but I love the way it turned out!

I got this circle paper punch for Christmas and it's one of my new favourite things. I cut out circles in different colours of tissue paper and just glued them on to a white card background, overlapping the photo. I made the little banner from white paper mounted on yellow card and put the words on with Letraset.

Scrapbooking #2

Another scrap book page!
This photo is my parents and my sister having tea at Westfield shopping centre, the day we went on a tour of the BBC studios in London.

These are the supplies I used for this page. The background paper is from this pack of Martha Stewart paper that my friend gave me as she was getting rid of it. The tea, coffee and sugar stickers are some that I've had for ages so I don't know where they came from. The pale blue paper is actual a post-it which I printed on using the same technique as my photo gift tags.

Scrapbooking Start

It's finally happened; I scrapbook now.
I've always thought about doing proper, super decorative scrapbooking but with the amount of photos that I take it would be never ending. So I've decided to limit myself to only using the photos that I've had printed from film. I had a set printed in 2012 and I've got a camera with a half finished film in it at the moment.
This also means that the photos will all be the same size and I won't have to worry about sizing and printing them. I've chosen to make the pages square - the width of A4 paper - and I've been using whatever card I have around.

I thought I would share the materials I used for each page as I'm trying to use up the things I've collected, instead of buying new things from the crazy scrapbooking isles at Hobbycraft.
For my first page I used a leaf print patterned paper as the background, which I picked up at the Scrap Store. I added details by cutting out bits of some map themed wrapping paper, like the compass in the bottom left hand corner. I used Letraset, also from the Scrap Store, on a brown label, and I printed on to a brown paper bag to make the other labels.

What do you think of my first attempt at scrapbooking?
