Scrapbooking #9

For this scrapbook page I went for a completely different style. I was thinking of collage-y, art journal images with a lot of mixed media.
The photo was a bit of a dud as I think someone's finger (probably mine) was over the flash, so it's quite dark with an orangey tinge. As the photo wasn't amazing I felt I could be a bit experimental.

I started with plastic backed canvas for the base which I painted using black acrylic and a sample pot of orange wall paint to match the colour in the photo. Then I glued ripped bits of foil and newspaper to the canvas, covering the photo in places.

I painted over the paper and canvas, using a fairly dry brush to pick up the texture. I used copper acrylic paint to add to the shine the foil provided. I added some pattern using a rubber stamp and a black ink pad, and later just white paint.
I used a plastic stencil to paint on the names of my friends in the photo and the date it was taken.

The glow around the girls was created by applying bleach to the photo with a paint brush, which is a technique I discovered at work. The result is a bit unpredictable but I think it looks really cool.

And as usual here's a shot of everything I used.

More bleach

Last summer I spray bleached this top.
I've worn it a couple of time, but  I wasn't totally convinced by the way it looked.

So to change it I thought, 'bleach it all!'

I put the shirt into a washing up bowl of water and bleach, poked at it with a stick to it was all submerged, and then left it for a few hours.
When I took it out and rinsed it, it looked like this. I thought about putting it back and actually making sure every bit got bleached, but I quite liked the pattern caused by the creases.

This is the back.
I've always got the option to change it again if I want, since I've come this far with it.

Bleach and Bling

Photobucket
Everyone loves a shirt sprayed with bleach at the moment, right?

Well I saw and idea on Manzanita to put some lace over the shirt and spray bleach over that so you get the pattern of the lace.
Well, I tried it but by spray bottle got a bit drippy so the lace pattern was ruined by bleach blobs.
Fail!

Photobucket
You can still see a bit of the pattern on the edges.

So I decided to spray more bleach on the shirt to add to the blobs.
And then for something extra I sewed copper coloured sequins on some of the bleach dots for a subtle bit of bling.

Bring out the bleach

I bought this crop top from New Look in the January sales for £1. Bargain!
I won't tell you what size it is.
Ok, it's age 9.
I blame the fact its meant to be loosely fitting and cropped as to why it fits me.
Because this top is 12 years my junior!

Anyway, because the top is kinda boring, and only £1, I wanted to customise it.

I started by going crazy with fabric pens/paints/crayons with hopes that it would look cool and graffiti-y.
That did not happen.
So I tried to wash out the paint but that didn't happen either.

Then I thought back to loads of tutorials I've seen floating around that use bleach on t-shirts.
(And at this point I didn't care if I messed up the shirt because it was pretty far gone already, and was only £1. Did I mention that?)
So I taped out a diamond shape and filled up a spray bottle with some water and bleach.

The diamond image didn't come out as crisp as I thought it might, but I think it looks cool this way. My sisters think it looks like the Superman logo, rather than a diamond. I guess they're right.
I got a little spray happy/impatient, because when I didn't see instant results from the bleach I just sprayed on more instead of waiting.

My favourite part is the shoulders where you can really see the spray of the bleach against the original colour.

Now it's just a case of what to wear with it!
