DIY Jewellery Door Hanger

It seems with every place I live I have to come up with a new way to display and store my jewellery, and moving into my new house was no exception. I came up with an easy way to hang all my jewellery that didn't take up too much space but meant I could see it all at once.

I started by drilling some holes into a long, thin pice of wood. On the bottom I drilled the holes that the little hooks would screw in to, and on the top I drilled holes big enough to fit a kebab skewer.

I put the kebab skewer snuggly in the holes and sawed off the excess so there was about 2cm sticking out. These sticks are to put my rings on.

I painted the wood, first with primer and then glossy white to match the doors it would be attached to.

When the paint was dry I screwed in the metal hooks to the pre-drilled holes.

I attached the hangers to the inside of the door of my built in wardrobe using command strips. I've got a lot of love for those strips.

I like how the hooks and sticks keep everything in its place meaning I won't end up with a tangle of chains. And now my jewellery is kept right next to my clothes which is perfect for when I want to accessorize an outfit.

Chain Necklaces

I'm sure you've seen the trend of chunky chain statement necklaces or bracelets with something woven through the chain. Well I wanted to see what I could come up with based on that.

I had no plan going in to making this necklace. I was just trying things out and adding things on. What I ended up doing was wrapping pink embroidery thread round the links of the chain, followed by a purple piece of thread. Then I got more pink thread and at every third link I threaded on a pink plastic gem bead with a smaller purple bead on the end.

Securing the threads at the ends of the chain was a lot of knotting and wrapping round and ultimately UHU glueing.

To complete the necklace I added a thinner gold chain with a clasp at the back.

I really like the mix of gold and bright pink and I'm happy with how it turned out.

Whilst I had all my jewellery bits and bobs out I came up with this statement necklace.

The shiny pink things were a Scrap Store find and the silver circles were taken off a broken necklace.

I'm not quite sure what outfit this necklace would work with, but I like it anyway.

Jewellery display

I'm at home at the moment and I bought some of my things back from uni so I don't have to move out in one big go.

It turns out I have a lot of stuff.

This resulted in my desk looking like this.

But now it looks like this.

Aw yeah.

As much as I like my branch that I painted white and hung my jewellery on, it was time for a change.

Cue the pile of guitar bits I got from my friend last year.

I got one of the broken guitar necks and drilled holes into the fret board, along the front and on the bottom edge.

Then I screwed little hooks into the holes.

To attach the guitar neck to the wall I needed to add a piece of wood to the head of the guitar so it was equal with the other end.

Then we (mostly my Dad) used those hook platey things to put it on the wall, which was not easy but we (...my Dad) got there eventually.

It's a good job I'm short because the necklaces hang just above my head.

Perfect.

Refashion

I've been delving into my bargain box of jewellery and have refashioned a couple of pieces.

The gold bow is actually a brooch, but I added some chain, beads and charms to make it into a necklace.

The main component of this necklace started life as one third of a bracelet.

I added chains to another part of the bracelet to make this necklace.

Off site crafting

I'm back from my holiday, but don't worry, I kept up the craftyness while I was away.

This is my cousin and I making necklaces. Fiddly stuff.

We had an assortment of beads and used invisible thread, securing the ends with silver crimps.

And here are the results.

Bargain time

Norwich always has lots of antique and collectors fairs and the other day I snatched up this bargain. The whole box of jewellery for £5. There's over 25 items in there! A few pieces are broken but I can just use them to make new things.

This piece is a brooch - the two bits either end are pins- which says Parfums Cacharel Paris. I googled it ands it's a French perfume company and the charms are shapes of some of the perfume bottles. Swanky.

There's also a couple of broken watches in the box. I don't know what I'm going to do with them yet, but I could be inspired by these;
