Painted Fabric Skirt

I made a skirt!

And by made I mean my Mum had to come in and save it because my usual sewing method of winging it wasn't cutting it.

But enough about the construction, let's look at that fabric.
Where did I get it? Oh, I painted it.

This piece of plain white sheet was transformed with a little fabric paint.
I didn't really plan the pattern beforehand, I just made a start and saw where it went. I started painting blobs of light pink all over, then blue blobs next to the pink ones, and then dark pink ones. I also tried splattering the paint over the fabric, and I used some silver fabric paint in places.
I fixed the paint by ironing it as the bottles said to do.

My favourite part is the small dots made by sponging paint over sequin waste.

The skirt has a zip in the back and hooks to fasten it.

I love it!!
And I've got some of the painted fabric left over. What should I make with it?

I made skirt!

All by myself, without my Mum's help.
Granted it is the worlds most simple skirt but I'm still proud.
Especially since the whole process involved putting a new bobbin the sewing machine.

I used this one-hour skirt tutorial on Craftzine, with a few tweaks, and I used fabric that I got at a jumble sale.

The fabric is a little weird, kind of a shiny-feeling polyester, but I love the retro pattern.

Bargain time #4

At the weekend I went to my village fete which included a car boot sale.
I scored this skirt for £1.

£1! It's from Miss Selfridge and it still has the tag in.
And it had pockets. I'm very excited about the pockets.
Bargain indeed.

I also got these two bags for 50p each. Similar to this one I got last year which was probably from the same lady.
One has a whole load of beads in it, including a pretty glass pendant with daisies on it. The other bag has a lot of bangles in it and some necklaces. All good stuff.
With some my new beads I fancied up my Mum's sun hat for her.
I just threaded the beads in a sort of pattern onto some brown ribbon.
She's been showing it off already.

Have you got any great bargains recently?

Internet Inspiration

During the summer I came across this photo:

Unfortunately I didn't think to make a note of where I got it from, so if any of y'all recognise it, let me know.

But anyway, a skirt made of Uno cards! That's amazing. So I showed it to my Mum and proposed that we make a version. I got an old pack of playing cards and punched holes all the way around all 52 of them. Then my Mum crocheted black wool around the edges. She did show me how to do it but I managed about two cards and let her do the rest. The cards were then all sewed together (by my Mum) and a thick elastic waistband was attached. My Mum even made a matching bag with the cards that weren't used for the skirt.

Voila!

Now I just need an excuse to wear it. I'm hoping for a games-themed dress up night at the SU bar.
