Nail Varnish Wire Flower

I recently saw this pin of a wire flower made with nail varnish, which led me to this video of Man vs Pin (which is my new favourite thing) which told me that the secret to getting this project to work is glue. So I had a go.

I started by making a simple flower from craft wire.

I found the best way to coat the wire petals in PVA glue was to dunk the whole thing in the container.

Some of the PVA petals kind of popped as they were drying so those ones had to be re-dunked but eventually I got a wire flower with all five petals coated in PVA glue.

Then for the nail varnish. I painted it on and found that it made the glue wrinkle like water does to paper but there was nothing I could do about that, so I'm saying it was deliberate.

The petals got 3/4 coats of nail varnish

I then wrapped the wire stalk around a hair grip and made myself cute new hair accessory!

Wire Faces

Last week at art club I decided we would give making portraits out of wire a try.

This is my attempt. Don't laugh guys! It's tricky. I wasn't really going for a likeness anyway.

First I got the children to draw a picture of a face, then draw it again but only using one continuous line to make them think about how they would join the features to the rest of the face when working with wire.

I encouraged them to only use one long piece of wire but they found this a bit tricky so they used put together their wire faces in bits.

This 7 year old made his face with no help from me at all! Very impressed.

Yesterday, during my post-assessment-deadline Dawson's Creek fest (*cough* 11 episodes *cough*) I made these wire necklaces like the ones I've made before and are in my Etsy shop.

This time we've got a gold 'yay'.

And a cute little silver bow.

They're made by wrapping shiny thread around garden wire and glueing along the way.

These two should be in my Etsy shop in the next couple of weeks.
