Decorated Glass Jar

I've had Katie from Matsutakeblog's tutorial for Spaghetti Sauce Jar Moroccan Lanterns bookmarked on my computer for years. Aren't they pretty?
I've finally got round to making my own version after discovering I had the necessary supplies.

First I needed to pick out a jar to use. This wasn't a problem as  my Mum keeps a stash of glass jars above our fridge for jam making purposes.

I decided on this cranberry sauce jar as I liked it's square shape and, unlike the horseradish sauce jars, it wasn't going to be super stinky inside.

The supplies I discovered I already had were glass paint and this gold coloured outline paste. Katie used gold dimensional paint in her tutorial but I found this paste gave the same effect. The only problem is there wasn't that much of it so I couldn't cover my jar as much as I'd have liked to.

I applied the gold paste to the outside of the jar which was pretty straightforward. I'd sketched out a rough idea of the pattern I wanted and free-handed it onto the jar.
Then I poured some of the glass paint into the jar and tipped it around until all of the inside was covered. This took a while because that stuff travels slowly!
I left the jar upside down on it's lid so all the excess paint would drip out.

I love how this turned out. Even just adding colour to a regular old jam jar makes a big difference.

Because this jar seemed perfect for it, I put a small candle inside. There might be a problem because the paint is on the inside so I'll have to keep an eye on it. I had this candle lit for about half an hour and there weren't any issues.

There are so many great tutorials for decorating glass jars I'll have to decide which one to try next.
